Concrete Canvas
Concrete Canvas – Geosynthetic Cementitious Composite Fabric
Concrete Canvas is a flexible, concrete impregnated fabric that hardens when hydrated to form a thin, durable, waterproof and fire-resistant concrete layer. It is the original concrete on a roll. Concrete Canvas allows concrete construction without the need for plant or mixing equipment. Simply unroll and position Concrete Canvas, and then just add water (any type of water, including sea water). Concrete Canvas has no impact on the pH of runoff water. Concrete Canvas is widely used as a cheaper alternative to non-structural shotcrete.
Concrete Canvas is available in 3 thicknesses: CC5, CC8 and CC13, which are 5, 8 and 13mm thick, respectively.
Concrete Canvas Hydro, which includes a PVC backing membrane, is also available for hydrocarbon applications.
Concrete Canvas Shelters use inflation to create a surface that is optimised for compressive loading. This allows thin-walled concrete structures to be formed which are both robust and lightweight. They are constructed from Concrete Canvas CC13, bonded to the outer surface of a plastic inner. Once inflated, it which forms a Nissen-Hut shaped structure. CCS are deployed in four stages: delivery, inflation, hydration and setting.
Concrete Canvas Features:
- Water Proof – The PVC backing on one surface of the CC ensures that the material has excellent impermeability.
- Strong – Concrete Canvas has a 24-hour compressive strength of 50MPa. The fibre reinforcement prevents cracking, absorbs energy from impacts and provides a stable failure mode.
- Durable – Concrete Canvas is twice as abrasion resistant as standard OPC concrete, has excellent chemical resistance, good weathering performance and will not degrade in UV.
- Flexible – Concrete Canvas has good drape characteristics and will closely follow the ground profile and fit around existing infrastructure. Unset CC can be cut or tailored using basic hand tools.
- Fire & Chemical Resistant – Concrete Canvas has excellent high temperature performance and has been tested for reaction to fire. It is also more resistant to aggressive compounds than standard OPC concrete.
Concrete Canvas Benefits:
- Rapid Install – Concrete Canvas can be laid at a rate of 200m2/hour, up to 10 times faster than conventional concrete solutions.
- Easy to Use – Concrete Canvas is available in man portable batch rolls for applications with limited access. The concrete is pre-mixed so there is no need for mixing, measuring, or compacting.
- Lower Project Costs – quick and easy to install, Concrete Canvas is more cost-effective than conventional concrete, with less logistical complexity.
- Eco-friendly – Concrete Canvas is a low mass, low carbon technology which uses up to 95% less material than conventional concrete for many applications.
- Durability – Concrete Canvas offers up to 120 years of performance life.
Concrete Canvas is used across a range of sectors including mining, oil & gas, agriculture, and civil construction for a variety of applications, including:
- Channel/Ditch Lining
- Slope Protection and stabilization
- Bund Lining
- Concrete Remediation
- Weed Suppression
Concrete Canvas Formats and Selections:
- Culvert Lining
- Outfall/Spillway Protection
- Gabion Protection
- Mining Vent Walls
- Pipe Protection
Installation
Installation of Concrete Canvas is easy, as it allows concrete construction without the need for plant or mixing equipment. Simply position the Concrete Canvas and just add water.
